Kitchens
Good food and a warm kitchen are what makes a house a Home.
Designing a kitchen was all about aesthetics, ergonomics and craftsmanship. Now, it’s about something less tangible—understanding what kind of environment makes a person feel happiest at home: a move from the outer world inwards. The secret to a really effective kitchen is an efficient cooking zone, as this creates enough space to fulfill the room’s expanded role as the main ‘living’ space in the house. Focusing on its culinary effectiveness is no longer enough. A room once dedicated exclusively to food preparation is now a heavily used social space. Most family life takes place in the kitchen: decisions made round the kitchen table, homework, celebration cooking, polishing shoes, charging phones, mending bicycles and doing the ironing. Time at home together is limited, therefore, every house needs a flexible ‘common room’ where everyone can relax.
